TVator Remote is a device that lets you hook up a computer to a television. It comes with a handy remote control unit that can be used for zooming in and out or adjusting the display on the screen.
It works pretty well¾not perfectly. A TV doesn't have nearly as fine a resolution as most PC monitors so there's no way the output from a computer hooked up to a TV is going to look as sharp as it will on even an average PC monitor. Now that we have that out of the way let me say that I used the TVator Remote for classroom and demonstration use with several different TVs, including a projection device, and was generally satisfied with the performance. Matched with a projection TV the output is a bit coarse but beats the output from cheap LCD panels. A good quality LCD panel used with a high lumen overhead projector in a darkened room is quite a bit better, as you might expect. Devices like the TVator Remote are not a substitute for high quality LCD panels. If you have a need to use a large screen or projection TV to display computer output the TVator Remote is not a bad route to take. Most LCD panels will do at least as good a job, however, the TVator Remote costs $399 and even an el cheapo LCD panel starts at $2,500 or so. This is a very small unit. Cables, unit¾the whole thing will fit easily into a briefcase¾I fit it in my briefcase with a Gateway Nomad, power supply, mouse, etc. TVator Remote comes in two versions: one for IBM compatible PCs and one for Macs. I used it with a couple of different PCs and TVs and was pleased that one of the large selection of included cables always fit. I tried out the TVator Remote in several meetings and classes and it always raised a bit of curiosity from the crowd. "Does it work?" I was frequently asked. Yes, of course. Before I tried it out I wasn't aware that so many people have a need for easy, cheap PC projection. The TVator Remote has some definite uses. |
